Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) are all around us. From older, more experienced talent, fresh young faces, to diverse cultural backgrounds.

This leads to a brilliantly wide range of views and ideas that will grow a successful business.

It’s something that every business should value.

Race, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, and religion all cover in promoting and supporting diversity in the workplace are important aspects of good people management and being a positive team player.

But it’s being able to value everyone in the organisation as an individual and accepting all people’s backgrounds and way of life that makes any business inspiring, forward-thinking and approachable.

The question is, are we all there yet?

More than a Buzzword

Aurora knows that D&I is more than just buzzwords and checkboxes, it needs to be taken seriously and understood in the workplace for everyone to utilise this to its potential.

We even acknowledge this in our company values, which include: TogethernessInspire, Achieve, Make it happen, and Customers first.

D&I in the workplace has surpassed being an exclusively corporate initiative and is now considered a business imperative for many organisations.

D&I is mandatory in the corporate world as its benefits have become increasingly clear, as many candidates are now making it a deciding factor when choosing their potential employer.

A survey conducted by PwC on global D&I in the workplace found that 76% of workers believe it’s a priority and an asset to be part of a business that invests in D&I, and that number will inevitably continue to grow.

Being able to value everyone in the organisation as an individual and accepting all people’s backgrounds, views, and ways of life will ultimately make any business inspiring and innovative.

Our Awareness is Clear

D&I may be around us, but it’s the acknowledgement and awareness to retain this in the working culture that keeps us growing as a business.

With a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives at Aurora, we ultimately lead to inspire our employees, grow in our teams, and build our collaborations.

The UK Government Equality Act states while UK legislation covering age, disability, race, religion, and sexual orientation among others, sets minimum standards, making sure the law is easier to understand and strengthening protection.

An effective D&I strategy goes beyond legal compliance and seeks to add value to an organisation, contributing to employee wellbeing and engagement.

Aurora had held strong awareness in this way of working and as a modern, forward-thinking company, we continue to strive to do so.

From fair treatment, team collaboration, creative input, and equal access and opportunity, our awareness are clear.

The interesting thing to note is that while some employees perceive their company as diverse based on practices, the inclusion aspect can be overlooked.

It is equally important, which helps organisations focus on innovation and creativity.

So, making sure these practices are acknowledged and that is desired by everyone in the workplace, will create the best working environment for diversity and inclusion.

Remember, Diversity is a fact, Inclusion is an act.
